Rockfax Description
A short but excellent little via ferrata with enjoyable climbing on good rock. Like many of the routes at its grade, there is excellent climbing to be had on the rock itself whilst the wire, ladders and stemples are well-positioned when this becomes impractical. The ladders themselves are airy and fun and require a bit of force to pull through. The views from the summit are excellent and the descent makes for a pleasant walk. Although this via ferrata is short, its high altitude makes it an unwise choice in mixed weather.
Approach - From Corvara in Badia, park in the main car park below the Boé gondola. Take the gondola, and subsequent Vallon chairlift, to reach the plateau below the route itself.
From the top of the chair, follow a good path slightly right, signed for 'Via Ferrata Piz da Lech'. This leads over scree and bears back left underneath the base of the rock face and to the start of the wire.
VF - The original route began in a small chimney, however this was re-equipped in 2013 and the new route begins just to the side of this. The new cable is taut and well-positioned. Move left over a small ledge and continue up a second chimney. A technical slab leads up to a traverse right, then continue up a series of small gullies to a second traverse. Continue more vertically then exit onto a wide shoulder and follow a good path right then back left to reach two subsequent ladders. The first is straightforward, the second more challenging with a pull through a bulge, but well protected with metal pegs and taut wire.
Continue to exit the wire and follow a vague path which switchbacks up a series of scree banks to reach the summit.
Descent - From the summit, descend path 646 to the east over scree until a short vertical drop. Overcome this with stemples and cable. From here it is possible to head right, following wire to reach the top of the Vallon chairlift, or alternatively continue straight on then move left and descend a ladder. Continue easily to reach the Boé lift station. © Rockfax
