Montane Fury Lite Hoody Review

Montane's Fury Lite Hooded Fleece Jacket is designed to offer warmth, durability and freedom of movement while being lightweight. It is constructed with recycled brushed fleece, providing four-way stretch for mobility and a tough outer fabric for durability. It is designed to prevent overheating by managing moisture and heat effectively, making it suitable for various mountain activities and layering systems. We tested it across this winter and early spring, and while, yes, it's just a fleece, we like it a lot.

Pros: Lightweight, good fit, durable material, ease of movement, good warmth and moisture management
Cons: Nothing major to fault

In Use

I've been happy wearing the Fury Lite Hoody as a midlayer for a variety of days out hillwalking in winter and spring this year as well as when rock climbing in cool conditions. Being a hooded fleece this could obviously be incorporated into your layering system across a variety of activites. Compared to its brother the Fury Hooded Fleece, the Fury Lite Hooded Fleece saves you 20% of the weight, coming in at 312g (size M) on the home scales.

Fabric

The fabric is a Polyester-Nylon blend with 10% elastane, a smooth exterior and a luxurious brushed inside. This ticks all the boxes for me;

  • Comfortable against the skin
  • Durable external surface to withstand abrasion against rock
  • Sufficient stretch to allow for freedom of movement, while maintaining a snug fit
  • Good moisture and heat management when I'm active.

Overall, I feel very comfortable when on the move wearing this fabric. However, as per most fleeces I find you do require an additional windbreak layer when standing still in brisk wind.

Fit

A women's fit is also available. I'm quite slim, and the trim fit suits me well, with adequate length in the body and arms to cover my wrists and waist. Its articulated design prevents any hem lift and makes climbing in this fleece really comfortable. The flatlocked seams enhance comfort, especially under rucksack straps or a harness, while the low-profile hem and cuffs add to the overall sleekness. I've especially appreciated the snug hood, which effectively shields the face from wind on blustery days and fits comfortably under a helmet.

Features

Pretty standard and no needless extras; two zipped handwarmer pockets and a full length YKK front zip with small storm tape underneath.

Summary

My experience with Fury Lite Hooded Fleece has left me pretty satisfied, and I'm struggling to find any faults. It is just a fleece at the end of the day, but the fit and streamlined snug design work well on me when I'm out on cool days during high output activities. Additionally, it also looks good for casual wear around town.
