When I was growing up the cat next door was called Kathmandu. He was a distinctive, grey, squashed-face, long-haired Persian type of beast, bad-tempered and ugly as sin. I remember learning about castration when Kathmandu had his operation.
About a year after that we got a cat for ourselves, and allowed it to become pregnant. Podger had five kittens: three black, one tabby, and one distinctive, grey, squashed-face, long-haired Persian type of beast. Hmmm.
"Kathmandu" my dad said, "and Kathmandid."
