What would you suggest please?
What we do in the shadows - the original film that the series is based on. And it’s on the iplayer!
Let the Right One In. The original one.
A Girl Walks Home Alone at Night.
I can never get tired of Interview with a Vampire.
I second the above suggestion of What we do in the shadows, it’s brilliant.
And of course the entire TV series of Buffy the Vampire Slayer.
Dusk till Dawn, but I've spoiled it now
The Lost Boys
The Lost Boys
Salems lot. Tv series from the early 80's.
No idea where you'll find it but It gave me nightmares for a while.
Being Human
Nosferatu.1970s version directed by Herzog
"The Addiction" and "Only Lovers Left Alive" are good if you like a bit of arthouse.
"Near Dark" is worth it for the Tangerine Dream soundtrack.
The Keep. Quite difficult to find though. The F Paul Wilson book on which it's based was good, back on the day.
+1 for Salem's Lot.

Never seen a good vampire film, but Shaun of the Dead is a hilarious zombie film!
Funnily enough, I preferred the TV series. 😭
I also enjoyed the Underworld franchise.
Not a fan of Wesley Snipes Blade though. VanHelsing was fun
> That's a reply in the finest traditions of the site. Upvoted!
Fair comment! I tend to put vampires and zombies in the same bucket with a big "woo" sticker on it, so I only really take note when a film lampoons what I see as the collective genre with such comic genius.
I can't believe there are no Hammer Films on the UKC list. How about:
The Vampire Lovers
Countess Dracula
The House that dripped Blood
By remarkable coincidence all seem to feature Ingrid Pitt…
I really liked the Dracula mini series in netflixs
Near Dark is pretty good - dusty, modern western story of a vampire clan, directed by a pre-Oscar fame Katherine Bigalow. Lance Henrickson (Bishop from Alien) is the patriarch.
30 Days of Night - set in Alaska. Vampires are only a danger at night... but what happens in the prolonged night of the Arctic? Maybe not a traditional vampire story - more an action film with monsters but good fun.
I forgot about Nightwatch, dubed into English.
Day Shift is worth a watch however I have trouble suspending disbelief with Snoop Dog's acting skills.
But no Christopher Lee? Heresy.
Dracula, Prince of Darkness. Proper classic Hammer.
Or for that psychedelic groove, Dracula AD 1972, With Peter Cushing, Stephanie Beacham and Caroline Monroe
I qas going to say black sheep but not sure its a vampire movie
I'm old school so its Nosferatu and the Hammer films with Christopher Lee, but this -
https://www.imdb.com/title/tt9139220/
was excellent too; with some comedic elements.
Dave
Abraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter.
Nutty but does explain how Confederate vampires were actually defeated in the Civil war. Based on one of a series of books concerning little known facts about historical figures eg Henry 8th Werewolf.
Dusk till Dawn
The Hunger - disclaimer not seen it for years and years but my teenage self thought it was ace!
Being Human was fantastic.
I know someone else mentioned that they weren't a fan of the Wesley Snipes Blade films but they did pretty much save Marvel from bankruptcy and there have been some decent comics published by then since so definitely worthwhile!
I am glad that sparkly vampires haven't had a look in yet!
Well, if you're going down that route, then:
https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0112896/?ref_=nm_flmg_t_35_act
https://www.imdb.com/title/tt1020885/?ref_=nv_sr_srsg_0_tt_8_nm_0_q_lesbian...
https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0095088/?ref_=nv_sr_srsg_0_tt_5_nm_3_q_elvira
etc
I generally can't stand horror films, but I'm a big fan of anything with vampires in it!
Interview with a Vampire - and Queen of the Damned
Blade franchise
Van Helsing
Underworld franchise
Bram Stoker's Dracula
Dracula Untold
Daybreakers
Byzantium
Rise
John Carpenter’s Vampires
Bloodrayne series
Hotel Transylvania franchise for a bit of light relief!
The Netflix series The Preacher had a vampire in it and I enjoyed it.
> Nosferatu.1970s version directed by Herzog
beat me to it…..and all his other films with Klaus Kinski
The BBC, 3 part mini series ‘Dracula’ is now on netflix. I thought it was pretty good
https://www.netflix.com/gb/title/80997687?s=i&trkid=0&vlang=en&...
Come to think of it Midnight Mass is one of the best things Netflix has ever made. The story somehow weakens as the series progresses but the acting, direction and cinematography are astounding.
> The BBC, 3 part mini series ‘Dracula’ is now on netflix. I thought it was pretty good
It started well, just don't bother with the third episode. That was just a lazy re-hash of Jekyll. (Also written by Steven Moffatt, also for the BBC - that was the one with James Nesbit as Dr Jekyll & Mr Hyde, no vampires but lots of fun and well worth a watch.)
I’m suprised and disapointed that nobody has yet mentioned the uber classic “I bought a vampire motorcycle” watch and enjoy
Martin (1977, George Romero)
Whether it’s truly a vampire film is ambiguous, but that’s kind of the whole point. It’s a pretty depressing story but definitely worth a watch.
Love at First Bite

> Dracula: Dead and Loving It
> If only for Leslie Nielsen
Has it got wolves in it?
"Shadow Of The Vampire"
Willem Dafoe and John Malkovich ham it up telling the story of the making of "Nosferatu." Hilarious, if you're in the right mood, and mad as a box of bats (frogs).
Another shout out for the Hunger
He's never seen actually indulging, is he?
Maybe there's a series of ...After Dark episodes that get a bit more visceral.
You should watch the 1931 Tod Browning film at least once. Very stage-y but it is the source of the classic dracula of subsequent films
And Kim Newman (@annodracula) has an incredible archive of vampire films on his blog (johnnyalucarddotcom, I think)
Pretty much every vampire film ever made!
Carry on Screaming????
I' m too long in the tooth for vampire films.
> The Keep. Quite difficult to find though.
Is that the Michael Mann film?
That's the badger. Found it for rent or purchase on Amazon prime earlier today, so not as difficult as I'd thought to track down.
T.
Ooh. Tangerine Dream soundtrack, too
Only 1 mention of it but it's one of my favourite vampire film.
John Carpenters Vampires. It's cheesy but James Woods plays a great part.
Avoid the sequel like the plague though.
I know. I believe the author of the novel on which it's based described the film as visually stunning but an otherwise unwatchable blancmange, though not in those exact words.
So that'll be you and me watching it for the soundtrack then . . .
T.
Oh, interesting. I have a minor side interest in Michael Mann's films, and have never seen that one. I understand The Keep may have its failings ..... but Tangerine Dream soundtrack.
I love Michael Mann films, he's one of my favourite directors. His movies usually have good soundtracks. Love the Heat sound track, and the soundtrack for Last of the Mohicans.
"Renfield"
Assuming of course you want: so bad it's good comedy. Saw first third on a flight (ran out of time so couldn't watch all) but it looks promising
Ken Russell's The Lair of the White Worm
Stoker ( bit of a stretch admittedly https://them0vieblog.com/2013/12/27/my-12-for-13-stoker-a-vampire-story-wit... )
Nadja (Michael Almereyda film from 1994/5)
Thirst (Rod Hardy's Australian film from around 1978)
not a recommendation as such, because overall it falls flat, but there are some very good central ideas in Dracula 2000 (starring Gerard Butler when he was still almost cool) that make it worth watching, and I think you'll enjoy some of the supporting cast. It's more interesting than several recommendations above (Daybreakers, Countess Dracula, The Lost Boys)
> Dracula: Dead and Loving It
> If only for Leslie Nielsen
There's a lot of good stuff about that film! Peter MacNicol as Renfield denying he's eating insects. Amy Yasbeck as Mina and Lysette Anthony as Lucy both totally doing over the top English accents. Dracula's happy dream sequence where he eats chicken at a picnic in the sunshine and enjoys some red wine...
Legend of the Seven Golden Vampires
Dracula: AD 1972
"Open the window, Mark"
My brother thought it would be funny to knock on my window late one night after watching that - b@#!%$=&
> He never died 2015
> Life force 1985

Is there an echo in here?!
> Is there an echo in here?!
A little known fact about Vampires is that their voices don't echo.
I think you're confusing them with ducks
> I think you're confusing them with ducks
Not in a heartbeat and I'd stake my life on it.
> It started well, just don't bother with the third episode.
I agree, but the first two were excellent!
´You are what you eat’ and ´I’m undead, I’m not unreasonable’
Michael Mann: he can match the music to the mood of the scene. Manhunter. One of the best films ever made.
Innocent Blood is a nice, funny vampire/mafia combo.
Cronos is a stylish Guillermo del Toro vampire film.
Japanese surreal comedy "Mr Vampire"
Introduces new vampire rules such as if you push chopsticks up your nose the vampire can't smell you, also the vampires don't walk but jump with feet together. Story is like the script has been modified by Vic and Bob with Spike Milligan.
Worth mentioning 'what we do in the shadows' is (I presume) meant to be a comedy.. but I don't get anything out of it as I was looking for a hard edged, gritty, scary thriller type vampire film. Imagine a version of the detectorists but about vampires (cringe).
Stake land is pretty good. The sequel was a bit meh in comparison but still ok.
> Worth mentioning 'what we do in the shadows' is (I presume) meant to be a comedy..
You are so so wrong there. What we do in the shadows was obviously a documentary. There was a camera crew and everything.
> Michael Mann: he can match the music to the mood of the scene. Manhunter. One of the best films ever made.
At last! Someone who agrees with me. (And I'm the person who thinks Miami Vice - the film - is up there as well)
The Lost Boys is on BBC3 at 9.30 tonight
Dance of the Vampires
A bit off topic, but I recently listened to "Impact Winter" on Spotify.
Absolutely incredible with the best voice actors
