I'm looking for trousers comparable to Rab Fulcrum, slim fit, size 30 or S, something for the summer, autumn and spring, new or used. Thanks!

Lightweight, stretchy, dual weave softshell fabric. Bum and thighs are close fitting, more like running tights, but the stretch means they're not restrictive.

£35.

I've noticed identical fabrics between some Rab and Decathlon products, especially the 'Matrix' fabrics...

Thanks for your message. Not a big fan of Decathlon or their merchandise I must admit. I'll have a look anyway.

Rab Torque would fit the bill.

Out of idle curiosity, any particular reason why? Is there something I've missed?

The prices are definitely competitive, however I find the quality of their products not the greatest. My personal preference is the independent outdoor retailer too. Decathlon remains a big chain, with a large offer (a big plus) but not really specialised in outdoor/mountaineering/climbing. Nothing wrong with this either but again not entirely what I'm after.

They look amazing! I love the slim cut, not too sure whether they wouldn't be a bit too warm for nice summer days inthe UK or theAlps? Definitely worht investigation. Thanks!

Thanks. I understand the desire to support your local independent. Paying 2.5 times the price for a similar product is something I baulk at; my upbringing...

As for the quality issue, well, Decathlon has a vertically integrated product line, so starts with low end products at the Millets/Peter Storm level, but goes up to stuff that's comparable to Rab in design, materials and manufacturing quality, IMO. As I said, some of the materials look very, very similar between products. Sadly, most of the stores don't seem to stock the higher end product, so you have to order them in (if you can find them on their hopeless website). Or maybe it's just the customer demographic at my local store...

And no, I don't have any connection with Decathlon other than as a customer; I just like value for money.

I'd suggest the Rab Torque are very similar to the Rock trousers... At the end of the day, it's your money, of course.

Happy hunting.

Price is an important factor when buying gear, definitely. This is why I avoid getting stuff that is relatively cheap as my general experience is that it doesn't last as long, it's not the same quality, etc. Having said that, I do agree some makes are overrated and overpriced.

I've found much of the higher priced (but still dead cheap) kit from Decathlon to be of just as good quality as equivalent stuff from the big name brands. I've got several pairs of Decathlon's Quechua and Simond softshell trousers and they seem just as good as the Rab and ME ones I've used.
