In cham right now, hoping to do traverse of aiguille de crouches tomorrow. My guide books describe the descent variously as snow slope or rock. Given the very hot spring, will I be likely to need any winter gear? Can't see much snow left on that side of the valley.

I did that route 2 weeks ago and there was snow on the descent. However, it was very soft so you could quite easily have done it without an axe or crampons. Having said that, an axe/pole was useful just help balance while post-holing on the way down.

There was no snow on the way up to the start.
