Is there a preferred way round to use these? If you take the velcro strap off (I presume you're supposed to leave it on even when the thing is in use) it opens out like the picture on the DMM web site shows:

FWIW I'm fairly skeptical about the true value of impact-reducing extenders anyway, but if I'm going to use one I'd like to know whether I'm doing it in the recommended way.
