In reply to Matt Schwarz: go skiing. I guess some of the higher resorts must have conditions comparable to a good spring in terms of snow cover. granted the weather will still be shit, but at least you have the comfort of the mountain bars and cafes plus warm ski gear!

Maritime Alps, Verdon Gorge, Ardeche, Loire Valley; some of the national parks away from Alps.

The Vercors. For some reason this is largely ignored by Brits nowadays but there are some fantastic routes there in beautiful country.

With a wish list like that you could go almost anywhere in Europe and have a good time!

You may want to consider our part of the world - Ariège in the French Pyrenees - for some or all of it. If you're serious about trekking I'd recommend the Chemin de la Liberté, a 4 or 5-day hike across some of the highest Pyrenean passes following the commemorative escape route for Allied escapees during WW2. If you need help with logistics - particularly pickup from the rather remote arrival point in Spain - we could help.

Other than that there's world-class huge sport routes on the Dent d'Orlu and more single and multi-pitch sport climbing than you can shake several sticks at.

There's an overview at our accommodation site http://www.chezarran.com/activity.html and more detail about the Chemin de la Liberté on our activity site http://www.spa-treks.com/chemin-de-la-liberte to be going on with, but happy to help if you'd like more info.

Go to Norway. Theres the epic ridges in Romsdal or a place called Uskedalen near bergen which has an 800 m high bigwall on really nice rock with hardly any climbers. Maybe Uskedalen will be better because summer is probaby over further north.
