In reply to Rampikino: must be a cut and paste I have received the same letter
Dear...
We have now had the opportunity to look into this matter further. We have established that Cornwall Council does not financially support the Hope Project or have any direct connection with it. However, regardless of this, Cornwall Council would not and does not support racism in any form whatsoever. As with other public sector partners, Cornwall Council has a proactive duty (under the Equality Act) to: eliminate discrimination, harassment and victimisation, advance equality of opportunity and foster good relations between people.
We are working with partners, including the public sector and in particular race equality voluntary sector organisations in Cornwall to address hate crime under the Safer Cornwall Partnership (please see
http://www.cornwall.gov.uk/default.aspx?page=27766 for additional information ). This work is looking at:
· improving the under-reporting for race, homophobic and disability hate crimes and incidents
· making better use of the data public and voluntary sector agencies have to establish a more complete picture around hate crime
· exploring 3rd party reporting mechanisms.
This work involves Cornwall Race Equality Council.
You may also wish to look at the Equalities pages (www.cornwall.gov.uk/equality) and the Community Safety pages
