Could somebody tell me the relative density of rice, or, alternatively, how many gramms of rice fit into a normal tea mug? Off to a hut this evening and have forgotten to weigh it out.

You will need to supply the volume of the tea mug and a fudge factor relating to the amount of tamping...

From memory I think a standard of rice is around 8oz.

A quick measure in the kitchen gives 194g of basmati in 250mls, so roughly 800g/litre.

In reply to alex_th: I always figured a third of a standard tea mug gave enough rice for one portion.
