Anybody know of any sources of downloadable MP3 audiobooks, I fancy listening to a few classics (Dickens, Trollope etc) while away on my annual roadtrip to the Rockies!

In reply to grumpytramp: Me too, appariently there's a mp3 radio thingy now that is like a radio station you down load every day or something to your mp3 play, any one got details of this as well?

http://www.audiobooksforfree.com

Go through their registration process and you can
download their books at the low quality 8Kbps rate
for free. You can pay a subscription to get higher
bitrates.

If your player cannot handle 8kbps (many need at
least 32), you can batch convert using a number of
audiotools. I tend to use winamp because it is free.

You may need to install the Lame codec:

In Winamp, right-click and select the "Options" menu,
then select Plug-Ins -> Output.

Change the output from "Direct Sound" to "Disk" so that
when you play your 8Kbps files they get dumped to the
HDD. Click on "Configure" to tell winamp where to put
them, click on "Convert to Format", select the Lame
codec and whatever bitrate you want.

Convoluted, but free and works for me.
