A horrific example of chairlift rollback if the brakes fail. If you find yourself on a chairlift moving backwards at speed make sure you jump off...

Where did you film this? Were many people hurt? Looks horrific.

Not my video Trangia. Miraculously only 8 injured and no deaths.

Looks like deep snow which must have helped limit injuries

I skied there last year....it actually seemed quite safe compared to other esoteric places I have been including Macedonia and Kosovo this year.

on a point of fairness the most recent British guy into space (I forget his name) was talking about how reassuringly robust the Russian engineering of the space equipment he used when coming back to earth was/is, he described it along the lines of it being loud and rattly, and tough.

I think the main thing is to remember to jump off...

At what point during re-entry should you jump off?

Just before you hit the ground.

This is mildly amusing, that child's toy tank is nuts. Though now I think of it, I had a metal digger which I used to catch my fingers in, it was indestructible though. I learnt not to catch my fingers too.

The lift appears to be a Doppelmeyr, which makes it Austrian!

Best to get your skis off first as well.

This forum is great for random facts...

It’s also probably 50 years old and been installed and disassembled at 2 or 3 resorts before finding its way here.

so it was a brake failure rather than the motor going into reverse after a power cut as the bbc reported?

Presumably there must have been more than one failure if the anti-rollback device was needed in the first place

The brake failed when the power was lost

It depends whether somebody had it as an idea by itself I guess?
