Blencathra camp in a storm

A winter summit camp on Blencathra goes very wrong when a weather front brings high wind, and a dramatic rise in temperature turns the frozen pitch into a river. With the tent collapsing from above, and water rising from below faster than he can bail, what will Al and his dog Blue do: stay put, or brave the storm at night?

Youtube wild campers might be prone to hyperbole, but this is one genuinely extreme situation. Impressively, Al braves it out, and even more impressively he not only carries on filming, but manages to keep smiling too.

"I would never have believed that at 830m above sea level with a temperature of -5 degrees C it would, in a couple of hours, raise the temperature by at least 10 degrees and thaw out a frozen mountain" says Al.

"All water seemed to run towards and through my tent! Dealing with the problems by being calm and thinking carfully of all angles of risk and acting accordingly kept Blue and I safe."

Hilariously horrible, and we're only glad it was him and not us.
