Despite 17 pitches to get used to it, the exposure still smacks you in the gut as you pull round the roof.

Everything about this is superb. It captures exposure and grip at the same time.

Your not wrong Adam, when you go to get your feet over that roof, it hits you like a train!

nice photo. what grade is the route you were on?
mulletcocktail2000 - 08/Jul/08
Its probably worth E3 5c. Only two pitches at that grade, but a lot of E1 to get there which makes them feel harder.

For the first time in my life I have vertigo - and I am sat at a computer! This really captures the scene - Amazing photo!

It is a classic shot Adam, can't believe it was nearly two years ago, feels like yesterday looking at this. In fact it feels like right now, because it's taking me right back there!

Not only is this a wonderful climbing photo of a marvellous line but it also shows an horific shrinking of the glacial snows that used to butt the cliffs.
Andy Cloquet - 21/Jul/08
Was this in a mag a while back? I certainly remember looking at a similar picture whilst in hospital and thinking "One day..."

Yep, double-page spread in Climber July '07

In fact I looked down here 28 years ago and the glacier doesn't seem to have changed that much. Must dig out a slide to see if it's my memory that's changed...
jon - 08/May/09
... Found my (crap) photo now. It shows that the glacier has changed very little since 1981. Even the snow patches are the same shape, meaning that the ice underlying the moraine is still the same... http://www.ukclimbing.com/images/dbpage.html?id=129568
