I love the sort of half-formed ghostly images of you climbing.

So good to see a different photo.

Is this just one exposure?
Paul Phillips - UKC and UKH - 16/Apr/07
Unreal. How did you create this?
Jus - 16/Apr/07
Yep, it's just one long exposure. No Photoshop. I started the exposure, walked over to the boulder, switched on my headtorch and did the problem. I then switched off my headtorch, walked back over to the camera, and ended the exposure. I repeated this a couple of times with different compositions and light levels.

I've not seen that kind of photo before so 6/5 if it's an original idea or just 5/5 if you borrowed it from somewhere else!
Andy Fielding - 22/Apr/07
I really like that, something different and ultimately simple but with great effect.

The more I look at this the more I like it. Wonderfully innovative shot, and the result is beautiful.

The long vertical yellow streaks point toward the footholds, the bright splodges should cover the handholds, the sharp lines are you studying the rock ahead and the ghostly images of you indicate a pause.

Inspired Jamie. How many times did you do the loop before you got it right? I reckon you walked round the far side.
Chris F - 01/May/07
An ace picture. Respect for the no photoshop ethic (the photographic equivalent of an onsight?). I love Spofforth, but have never managed Rock Around The Block (I'm just a punter), and you've presented an entirely different aspect of a familiar place. What time of night was it?
BrianT - 01/May/07
Thanks guys! I think I did the problem 5 times that day, though not all by headtorch! One of the alternative shots is also in my gallery. No I did not walk around the far side! This pic was taken in the proper dark, around 5pm in the mid-winter. The other one was a bit earlier when it was still dusky.

Thanks Jamie, great photo.
Tim Bird - 02/May/07
is it just me or can anyone else see the Bhuddalike face in the centre of the block?
SFM - 04/May/07
yeah - do you think Jamie's trying to make a statement?
TomG - 04/May/07
looks as though the rock is gonna explode from the middle!!! wikid!
