No wonder he looks like he's concentrating hard with such a minimal level of gear in!

Well they are bomber placements. No point hanging around !

We were also getting tired by this point as it was route 9 of 12 of the day.

I never have figured out the guidebook description for this finish. It says something like "with a bit of thought, avoid a long reach left". This pic is a really good illustration of a bloody long reach!

I think there is more than one way to finish this route! We opted for long reach, move hands leftwards to better holds (& puddle of water), then mantleshelf. This meant Rich got even further from his gear than in the photo...but he wasn't going to let go.

Dont understand the gear comments, surely thats pretty much what everyone puts in? Its certainly what I used and is perfectly safe and if you tried to place it after leaving the ledge you'd get pumped silly.

Like I said, the gear was bomber and no problem.

No big deal, but you can get bomber gear significantly higher up the crack (e.g. where it turns horizontal) which reduces the consequence of the big swing, if you uncurl while finishing out left. I tend to finish straight up though...

Nice pic Chris, shame about the punter you chose as a model - most unphotogenic ;-) another 5

Hi Tim, well YOU did nag me that I wasn't taking enough climbing pics .... and now poor old Rich is too ugly for you ..... ha!

I took a huge whipper off this move and almost decked out. Just missed landing on Jonny Dawes' head - he was amused...

I took my first ever fall on this route too - also my first E1 attempt. I narrowly missed K.O my belayer too with a flying sidekick. A really good route.
