Czechoslovakia behind the iron curtain then. We joined forces for a fairly harrowing top part in the conditions.

Yes, my photo. We'd belayed just above as they arrived, after which we joined up with them for the rest of the route. Incidentally' I did the Austrian route at a later date.

We were just behind you on the Austrian route; John Barker, Ian Blakeley and l, twenty three hours from the refuge to Cham. Shanks’ pony all the way. John still wanted a beer in town. The only place open was the Casino and we were not appropriately attired. Shown the door.
