Nice light!
Jon Read - 14/Nov/19
Very nice. The quality of the light looks like you have a remote flash, but that can't be possible.... Just lucky with the sun/cloud combo!
ChrisBrooke - 14/Nov/19
Actually, it must be a flash unless the sun is below the climber looking up..... either way, nice shot :)
ChrisBrooke - 14/Nov/19
Yes there is a remote flash but I have decided to remove it in this image and thank you
Jodie Evans - 14/Nov/19
Oh, I feel a little bit cheated now :-(
Jon Read - 14/Nov/19
I got rid of it because it was a huge strobe light and thought it was unattractive. Will remember to keep it in next time, thank you for your feed back though

At last a bouldering photo on here actually taken during the day, and then we find it was floodlit anyway! Weird......
Robert Durran - 14/Nov/19
most climbing photos these days are floodlit, it really brings the details out in the rock face, I used a studio flash on this image as its currently for my University project, I have edited the details on the image now so it dose now state that a studio flash was used :)

As a pro photographer, this is a wonderful shot. I would crop a little tighter and get the climber off centre (to the rhs) to emphasize the autumnal feel and cut out most of the bland sky. The sky can be made better with a graduated filter and some nurning btw. The shadow is disturbing once you realise why its there. Godd luck with your photography.

Maybe floodlighting should be like make up; if you can tell it's there, then it's overdone.

Congratulations! This photo was chosen as Photo of the Week, based on votes by registered users over the past 7 days.
UKC Photos - 17/Nov/19
Agree with David re. the crop. But otherwise a lovely capture. Well done!
Sean Kelly - 17/Nov/19
I like this one. The strobe adds drama to what would otherwise be very flat lighting. I like that you've hidden the strobe, compared to the previous Utopia shot.
Si Witcher - 18/Nov/19
No problem with the use and editing out strobe for me either. Personally though it looks a little unnatural in this image; still very much like the photo tho. As do lots of others 38 votes is a lot, when most photos average 10-20!
Mike_d78 - 18/Nov/19
The fact that it has 38 votes but is only at 5 in the rankings shows that it has very much split opinion!
Robert Durran - 18/Nov/19
Photo of the week though....maybe it only slipped down following strobegate : )
Mike_d78 - 19/Nov/19
It was at 5 including the non climbing photos despite having many more votes than those above it which means its average vote must be much lowee. The relative weighting of number of votes and average vote on UKC is a mystery!
