Is the crag clean? We climbed there one weekend over 20 years ago. A local outdoor centre had been climbing there and cleaned the whole crag.

Relatively, yes! A bit licheny in places, and the top-outs leave much to the imagination but it has lots of potential!

The crag was previously called Cladh a Bearnaig. Do you know when and why the name was changed to Catnip? I have a hand drawn topo from the outdoor centre guys that gives it the Gaelic name. I don't remember the top-outs but I do recall a few metal belay stakes in place at the top, are they still there? I also seem to remember the best climbing was a left to right traverse of the whole crag?

Hi Le Sapeur. I dont think the folks who documented it knew it had another name? It was added to the SMC logs about 5 years ago as Catnip, though i dont know the story behind the name. I presume the old name refers to the old walled enclave nearby? I havnt spotted any stakes yet but all pretty overgrown.. The traveres is great as are the upwards routes. Id be very interested to see teh old topo though if you were able to post it up or email it? Cheers for the info! Alex
