We did all the summits

Wonderful photograph.

Thank you Myfyr. But l'll never understand what people like. That photo of the view across the Kuffner to Mont Blanc is I think a wow, and the final one good, but the others I put in basically to show what the route was like.
In fact these are all half frames taken in 1965 whilst climbing when I was almost a beginner and which I have with considerable difficulty managed to recuperate: they're hardly going to be the hot shots of a modern camera

But we don't want the hot shots of a modern camera, John! Nothing wrong with them - but we see loads, all the time. With photographs from people such as Tony Marr and yourself, there's an historical interest which modern photos obviously can't supply. And sometimes there's a timelessness - a classically iconic quality. This photograph, I would suggest, is one such.

ah, but UKC does

Agree wholeheartedly Mick. Timelessness. These photographs are always brimming with interest. The detail within showing the equipment (or lack of), the enjoyment, and occasional suffering, all convey a wonderful sense of adventure. They are a superb historical resource - so lucky to have them on UKC. Thank you John, looking forward to the next instalment.

John, these photos are just fabulous. Not just the photos, but the fact that the Arête du Diable is still a route that commands the utmost respect and is a much sought after tick... and there you were, 54 years ago, as a beginner..... what a day indeed!
