Where this photo was taken from the public road on the west side of Thirlmere lake it has now been closed by United Utilities for eight months from trees that blew down in March 2018.Could have been opened in a matter of weeks!

Sections of the shore path has been closed for two years and the Brundholme road has also been closed for a similar time but has no visible damage. What's going on around Keswick? Is the place shut?

Well, the Brundholme road has pretty much always been closed to traffic, it would be a problem with two-way traffic, however, it is open to walkers and bikers.... Thirlmere is a totally different problem. The problem is the foreign-owned large corporation United Utilities virtually have complete control over the National Park. They as you say just closed down the west side public road and the footpaths of that area (where their Zip Wire would have been built)for over a year ....this for their own convenience to use as a forestry road to extract their timber. They also closed the road over the dam for no other reason than because they can... They throw out cash compensations to the various organisations who may object to both the above and their massive pipeline project, that is digging up the northern part of the National Park, heading towards the Sellafield area. Corporations rule.!
