Surely this photo dates from more like 1975!

I don't remember anybody having Helly Hansen in '75, whereas they were starting to come in, in '78. Don't remember Steve having a pair though (maybe he borrowed 'em). Circa '75, I do remember being leery of locking my heel in the break. Exasperated, Steve it a lurch and it locked tight! In fact, it was so well locked in that the balance move up seemed almost trivial. Lovely problem - classic Al Manson.

He was/is one of the most talented climbers I knew, I remember him sauntering up the start of Boggart at Burbage in plastic soled trainers when he was far from fit. Made stuff look easy.
