A bit of an ice potholing expedition with several narrow squeezes to get this deep but very much worth it, truly a magical place. You can hear the glacier creaking and groaning which is a bizarre experience from below.

Looks like an HR Giger painting. Must have been amazing!

R u sure this is real, on my phone it looks like a painting. Great shot.

Where is the light coming from, James? Is it natural through the ice or have you lit it.

Thanks guys! It is a proper bizarre and alien landscape created as the water flows through in the summer. So many unusual shapes, patterns and textures.
Jon - It’s natural light filtering through from above, I’ve not lit it or used a flash. Just remember this is a long exposure (12 seconds) so the camera is picking up more light than your eyes do. It’s brighter than you might expect though and you can navigate (for the most part) without using a head torch ones your eyes adjust.

Thanks James. I hadn't considered the long exposure...

What was the contact like between the ground and the ice - clay?
brianknell - 14/Mar/18
Lovely. More Robert Venosa than Giger, in my book.
