Thanks. It is indeed still there. The modern route takes the top pitch of Kaleidoscope, rather than the loose and unpleasant chimney off to the right. Makes it a very worthwhile route.

Reminds me of an epic with my dear friend Dave Colsey who belayed close to that tree for a mass ascent of preston poly climbers only. The legend that was Ken Leonard became stuck and then fell off, dragging Dave into an ant hill next to the tree. Dave was stuck for ages and almost eaten alive. Ken eventually descended safely quickly followed by Dave and it was back to the late lamented climbers bar at the back of the Scafell to recover.
Dave's note in his well thumbed Borrowdale guide was simply ANTS!!!!!
