Skiing Storkalkinn east face was one of our season goals, and we approached via the east ridge. We got to the top on time, but underestimated how long it would take to get past the cornice. Firstly we tried cutting it with a rutschblock cord, then digging through it, eventually we discovered cornices are much bigger up close... By the time we'd decided to ab over the top, the rumbles of avalanches had gotten too frequent and we were 1.5hrs past our goal descent time, so we decided to pull the plug and ski the ascent route. Nevertheless, a great day out, and we have more knowledge so we can succeed next time.
