What a busy route....!

Some dyno! ;)

I assume he didn't hurt himself.
Given that can I add he looks like he's doing the Hokey Cokey.

No the title should have been, 1, 2, 3 o'clock, 4 o'clock rock... Not seen this technique coupled with a lob before. Great stuff, have a 5.
Mark Collins - 01/Mar/15
OK that's a better idea, anyway I think it deserves a 5 and I just gave it one too.

Haha, yes - that would have been a better name.
Wiz was ok after taking the fall, more psychologically bruised than anything! Fortunately he did it next go. Whilst it's difficult to gain perspective from this shot we reckon he'd fallen somewhere between 15-20m, he decided to skip the last bolt in favour of glory...

Very glad to hear he was OK, and also that he got up it 'next go'. I was thinking it looks like a long fall in the photo - thanks for posting.

What surprises me is how straight the rope stays in the initial part of the fall; I would have expected it to bunch up due to friction through the clips.
Robert Durran - 02/Mar/15
Also, were the shots taken at equal time intervals? There seems a rather big gap between the third and fourth one?
Robert Durran - 02/Mar/15
Nice concept, I like it.
James Rushforth - 03/Mar/15
Robert, I wonder if the rope staying straight is because he gave a tremendous kick off just as he fell? Can't think of another cause... and that surprised me too.
abseil - 03/Mar/15
I think you're right abseil, if you look at the shot of him at the apex of his fall in isolation he looks miles out from the crag. In addition to this there is a quite a foreshortening effect due to him being so high up on the route. With regards to the gap, I think there is another that I could have added in - not quite sure why I didn't do this in the first place!

Thanks for posting Rob, that's interesting. I find this photo amazing and keep going back to it... I've never seen a climbing photo like it! Great work!

A fairground attraction!
Sean Kelly - 05/Mar/15
Hard to tell because of foreshortening Rob, but how much rope stretch do you think there was?
