Liverpool University Rag week - probably 1974? Post climb. Details withheld to protect the innocent. Or guilty, as the case may be. Did we raise any money for charity? You've got to be joking - we needed charity.

Haha! The passing years have barely left a mark!! Nice to be reminded of a time when climbing was anarchic, subversive and counter-cultural. Sadly, I suspect that the only night climbing taking place in Liverpool these days is in the Climbing Hanger or some suchlike; pulling on plastic instead of aiding up lightning conductors - and missing out on memorable social interactions with Scouser police sargeants: ''Ey la, or ice there? Nah what yer doin that fer? Youse may think this is ded funny like, but is it just youse being a proper divvy or is there more scallies on the other end of that rope?'' :-)

I remember somewhat disconsolately sitting by the motor on attempt 1after my interception and subsequent release. There's nothing sadder than your mates pulling the rope up from where you are on an intermediary roof, leaving you stranded, but luckily with another rope so that you can ab off into the waiting arms of the "law". I clearly remember the "plink, tickety tickety tickety" of the lightening conductor attachment coming out and rattling down the roof on effort no. 2.... positively alpine.
I suspect you'd not see the light of day for a long time if you did that sort of thing these days. People have no sense of humour.

One Thursday evening in about October 1991 a friend and I simultaneously abbed off the Victoria Building clock tower to give a message to the people in the lecture theatre. Seemed a good idea at the time.

With the wisdom of age and in the fullness of time, I'm quite proud of what little we achieved!
