Route: Traverse of the Sialouze Climbers: Chris Gooder Camera used: Nikon COOLPIX L29 Date taken: July 2014
In 2000, with my climbing partner, we saved the life of a young aspirant-guide who took a long fall on the last point on the Sialouze traverse. He was in a semi-conscious state and bleeding badly from an ear. We decided to get him down to the glacier where a helicopter rescue would be easier in the failing light.
It took hours abseiling down, with the injured guy strapped in front of me. Two guys whizzed down to the Pelvoux hut and the helicopter arrived an hour or so later. Happy ending, but I'm not sure if he continued to qualify as a guide.
