Another photo taken from a Spitfire XIX. These pictures were originally in Shipton's "Mt Everest Reconnaissance". My father wrote an article that appeared in "Mountain World", 1955. in which, in classical understatement, he finishes "I would like to point out that a trip of this sort to Everest does not involve flying that is anything out of the ordinary".
Given the complete lack of navigation aids and the heat haze on the way back to Dum-Dum, I'd say that is some understatement!
