Brilliant - what year was this? I'm guessing that this is the traverse round to the path below Montenvers - not feasible these days, I presume.

The stripey patterns on the clothes I think were tres popular in about 74-ish (Rossignol?)
The skis and clothes look a bit earlier, though. As I recall, other colours than red and dark blue were beginning to be used in about 75-ish .
And right, hiring gear wasn't the fairly hassle free process it is today. Brueghel - good call. I was wondering why it was resonating so strongly
