A 1 minute exposure at f2.8 with the camera set at ISO 2500. Shame about the noise.

Would it work better noisewise to lower the ISO and increase the exposure time ?

Anything more than 1 minute of exposure and you start to get star trails. My fastest lens is f2.8 so a faster lens would help. I use the 14mm fixed focal length L series (£1400), it's a very good lens. I tried ISO 1600 which was OK but quite dark. It's really a trade off, in retrospect I would probably have been better with a slightly lower ISO and longer exposure. If anyone has any good ideas on night photography and noise reduction, please enlighten me. Or any tips on post work to reduce noise, I have already reduced the noise in the RAW file.

Thanks for your reply Ice Nine, I wanted to purchase the 14mm ffl L series as well but money a bit tight at the moment, thought about Sigma, not sure if I should save up for the canon or just go for the Sigma ?
