i was getting a lot of mileage in at the time - was living out by stanage - so making sure i could climb day in day out was more important than pretending to be tough and messing my hands up :P
that said, i seldom use them any more.

if you tape up properly you wont get tape across the palm. go from your wrist, up round each finger individually then back to your wrist. Repeat for each finger, secure round the wrist and go crushing
