There are two low tides a day... but not enough daylight ot make full use of them in March...

Technical stuff: unfortunately the moon went behind clouds after I started the exposure, so even with a 10 minute exposure the rock is too dark (I guessed the exposure to not over-expose the head-torch light). Its also spectacularly noisy for ISO 100! Its also slightly soft as the wind had got up and was moving the camera and tripod despite me weighting it!
May re-edit this in future with a better RAW converter... but I don't think its too shabby for a first try :-)

The light trail is fine but there needs to be more definition or shape in the crag outline. That time before complete darkness sometimes can give good results, with a hint of colour in the sky.
Ps. My fist thought was that it was penguins...now that would hasve been special! Still worth a 4.

I know what you mean, but it would've been fine if the moon hadn't disappeared behind cloud shortly after we turned up! Doh! Exposure is complete guess-work for this kind of thing anyway as you have no idea how long someone will take on the route - in this case I left the shutter open after Julie had finished to try and lift the level fo the slab and sea, btu we were running late and ahd to pack up. Also ,next time I will actually use the camera's long-exposure NR mode - which subtracts the pattened dark-current sensor noise from self-heating but doing another 'exposure' with the shutter closed.
I am going to re-process this after I move to Aperture 3 (with its considerably better de-mosaic noise reduction - 10 minutes gives quite a noisy shot even at ISO100!) and try a different edit with some dodge-and-burn action to make the crag and the sea more obvious. I just settled on an obviously 'night time' edit for this first go

Brilliant! I can't see any trace of noise on this. Looks to me like you've poured a barrell of Sambuca down the crack, and set light to it! Have a 5!

Michael - very long exposure of a route being climbed at night by headtorch.
Murdster - 'RAW' means the raw data of the image sensor in a digital camera - this isn't an image itself, it has to be converted into one, some programs are better at it than others - especially with the noise reduction stage.
