Excellent photo!

Hi Jamie, this was taken on the 15th. Was windy and we were in and out the clouds. Very atmospheric.

Honest question... What's so great about this shot? I'm not getting it all? I don't want to criticise so what do people see in it?

In answer to the above, superb use of contrast and light on the arete in the background. The scene is nicely divided into thirds, with a sweeping ridge leading the eye towards the patch of sunlight striking the ridge in the distance. The exposure is set just right to contrast the lighter cloud and dark ridge in the foreground, with a solitary figure adding foreground interest.

Please read this as a question/constructive critisism.... How about hacking off the bottom 3rd of the photograph? I think the forground below the figure is a bit distracting by pulling the eye away from the figure, sunlit area and contrasting sky/clouds. agree? disagree?

I think I agree that a little cropping (but not as much as "the bottom 3rd") might improve the composition further, whilst maintaining the rule of thirds. Love the light and exposure. I work quite a bit in B&W and so I have a habit of visualising images in this way. This shot is already close to monochrome and I would be interested to see a full B&W conversion.

I hope the comments continue in this entertaining way, i.e. tip-toeing around, scared of causing any offence.

I think it's a lovely picture but I find the vignetting quite distracting. Looks like a pretty grim day!

In reply to Murdster. Not sure what you are getting at. There is actually a lot I personally like about this image. Seemingly you do not approve?

Hi all. Thanks for all the interesting comments :-) It would be a sad day if we all liked the same stuff. It's also refreshing to know that we can all look at the same image but see it in different ways. IMHO.
