About 10 mins later I was heading back to the car (very slowly) with a broken ankle!

ahh, that's bad, how did you break it?

I got a couple of moves higher, lost my feet, couldn't recover and elected to let go after a couple of mins struggling. I drop 15ft+ and foot caught the slab below, bending the foot back.

Get well soon and have another go....just whack a friend in above your head where you are in photo....

In the 'V' slot about a foot above your head is a sinker jam, then hook up the left foot and rest before the finishing moves. Best to be bold and not fart about on something as steep as this. Hard luck about the break. Get fit in the arms before you go back!

Heh... looking at the piccie now I think I can see what the problem was - about 12kgs of excess gear on the harness :)
Still, a bloody good effort, and a cracking photo. Next time eh?

That's a shame! Hope you'll go back to have another go at it! When I did it I put the larger Hex I had in my mouth, launched up through the roof and placed the hex quickly were your right hand is. Bomber! Then sprinted for the top!

Thanks for the comment "dycotiles" ... I reckoned on getting that right hand up ... which I did and got it into deep into the V above my head, paused momentarily, thought about protection, figured I was fine with the bomber below, and then decided to go for the next move which would have had me stable and ready to put the next piece in. best laid plans - in this case, my feet cut loose, and I then exhausted myself trying to get my feet back on! I spent a little while trying, but realised I'd have to take the fall, so called "take" and let go figuring I would be fine - and even though my belayer was spot on with the catch, I was suprised when I clobbered my left ankle!
I've about a week to go before the cast comes off finally - hopefully the bone will be finally knitting otherwise, it'll be an op, and a few more week before I can start traiing again!
