Women's Trad Festival 6th - 8th August: Leader Applications Now Open! Gear News

© Jessie Leong

We are very excited to announce that the fifth Women's Trad Festival will take place this year in the Peak District, on the 6th-8th August 2021. Save the date - we'd love you to join us! Whether you're new to trad climbing, want to further your skills, or are an experienced trad climber, everyone's welcome, even if you've never climbed before.

TICKETS: BALLOT OPENING 1st MAY!

After last year's cancellation due to COVID-19, we are more excited than ever to unveil our grand plans for the festival. There is a huge amount coming your way soon… In the meantime here is the all-important information on tickets:

Similar to previous years, there will be a range of ticket types on offer to cater for those just beginning to trad climb or those wishing to develop their skills right through to those looking to learn essential self-rescue skills as well as those attending with children.

Knowing that tickets sold out instantly for the last festival in 2019, we want to reduce the stress and make sure being able to get a ticket to our festival was more accessible. With this in mind, all ticket types will be available via a random ballot. This means you can apply in your own time without needing to be ready at the precise moment tickets are released!

The ballot for tickets will be open from 1st May 2021 for two weeks.

LEADERS: APPLICATIONS OPEN NOW

We are looking for experienced and qualified trad climbers to join us in hosting our 'learners' – those less experienced climbers attending the festival. Leaders take two learner climbers out onto various crags in the Peak District and work with them throughout the weekend to develop their trad skills and confidence.

Being a leader is about meeting your learners where they are at, helping them progress in whatever area they need support with - whether that's gear-placements or head-game.

New this year, all leaders will need to be qualified at RCI/SPA level or above (there is more information in the application form).

Another addition this year is that leaders will be supported on a 1:3 basis by a highly qualified and experienced MCI (MIA) instructor throughout the weekend – a 'mentor'. These mentors will offer personalised advice and mentorship at the crags and support on any safety concerns. These mentors will be professionals in the industry and primarily women; providing an ideal opportunity for leaders seeking support on professional development. We believe that this increased mentor presence better supports women in outdoor leadership, one of our three festival aims.

So if are passionate about sharing your love of climbing by helping others learn, we'd love to have you join us this year! Become part of our growing community and network of climbers of all abilities and ages and genders by offering your skills introducing new climbers to the wonderful world of trad climbing! We are a widely inclusive event and trad climbers of all genders are warmly welcomed to apply to become a leader.
