The seventh annual Arc'teryx Alpine Academy, which ran from Thursday the 5th to Sunday the 8th, drew to a close last week in Chamonix. The event built on the previous years bringing together more than 500 alpine enthusiasts, mountain guides, and athletes to advance their alpine skills, covering many different aspects of mountaineering, climbing, and trail running.

For the second year running the Academy took over Chamonix town centre with the Arc'teryx "Alpine Village". This huge tent was the bustling meeting place for the academy participants, athletes and members of the public to enjoy live music, outdoor adventure films, talks, live masterclasses and other events.

The Academy classes themselves paired participants with local mountain guides and athletes. Participants were instructed on mountaineering skills such as glacier travel, crevasse rescue, mixed climbing and utilised Chamonix's incredible access to the likes of La Vallée Blanche, Mer de Glace, and Glacier d'Argentière.

Chamonix's extensive valley cragging was perfect for the range of masterclasses from learning the fundamentals of trad and sport climbing, to rescue techniques and bouldering.
