Cicerone Press is a leading publisher of trusted guides for walkers, trekkers, mountaineers and cyclists. Our 370 guides span the UK, Europe and much of the world, and are sold in many countries, in specialist and general outlets, as well as online.

Our friendly team of 18 is based in Kendal on the edge of the Lake District. We work closely with our authors, copyeditors, printers, distributors, retailers and media and many others in the outdoor community.

What the role is accountable for

Website:

  • Systematically improving website performance according to Website Strategy and annual Marketing Plans
  • Specifying each project in detail to ensure external developers will deliver quality work on schedule
  • Overseeing the smooth running of website operations from Cicerone's perspective: orders, down time, on-site communications, etc

SEO:

  • Delivering measurable improvements to SEO
  • Coordinating SEO and website materials across the team
  • Writing, collating, acquiring or editing additional materials to enhance SEO performance

SEA:

  • Planning and creating digital advertising campaigns to support paid-for search and shopping results on platforms such as Google Ads and Google Shopping
  • Ensuring campaigns are profitable and consistently improved upon

Analytics:

  • Analysing and presenting marketing performance using UA, GA4 and Data Studio
  • Consumer email marketing and website members:
  • Sending and optimising regular consumer newsletters
  • Implementing email marketing processes to assist in customer retention
  • Utilising email marketing platforms to respond to customer journeys
  • Increasing newsletter subscriber numbers and website membership

Customer service:

  • Dealing with customers' website issues by email and phone and liaising with our warehouse (this is a shared responsibility among several members of the team)

And:

  • Creating and managing content marketing
  • Reporting on consumer behaviour, trends, etc
  • Marketing planning
  • Video content management (not creation)
  • Other marketing-related activities as appropriate
     

Your experience and skills

You will have sufficient technical understanding and project management experience of websites/ecommerce sites. You will be performance-driven with a track record of increasing site visitors, newsletter subscriptions and revenue over a sustained period. As a performance marketer you will have solid experience in:

  • successful and profitable search engine advertising
  • improving an organisation's organic search rankings
  • improving a website's CR, and a deep understanding of the factors that impact conversions
  • the use of relevant analytics and data presentation tools
  • running bespoke and automated email campaigns such as onboarding campaigns and consumer newsletters.

Additional desirable skills:

  • CRM and segmentation
  • Customer service
  • Experience in marketing strategy
  • Content marketing (blogs, videos, podcasts, etc) creation and copywriting skills
  • Mobile marketing
  • Your personal attributes
  • Detail-oriented
  • Analytical
  • Self-managing
  • Business-minded, with clear understanding of how digital marketing fits with the company's objectives
  • Understanding of your return on time/capital investment
  • Performance and results-driven
  • Collaborative, and able to work with other members of the team to deliver results
  • Proven aptitude for spotting and initiating improvements, and in learning and upskilling yourself

Salary and how to apply

This is a full-time role, with our offices based in Kendal, with a hybrid working policy (in the office three days a week).
