On Saturday 5th May, the Lake District fells were once again lit up at night in a spectacular light show, as the third annual Lakeland Festival of Light came to Catbells. This charity event enlists hundreds of volunteers to create huge light trails on the hills after dark.

In previous years the event has seen 150 people scale Blencathra by moonlight, 500 people line the spine of Catbells and 650 people climb three of the Coledale fells above Braithwaite.

Raising funds for people in Nepal who were affected by the massive earthquake of 2015, the previous two events between them bagged £30,000 for various aid charities. Saturday's effort has so far raised over £10,000 for PHASE Worldwide, a Bristol based charity that supports various projects all over Nepal.

"I'll never get over the generosity and support, ranging from the participants through to raffle prize donors" said organiser Matt Le Voi of Lakeland Mountain Guides.

"Big thanks have to go to the marshals, the National Trust for allowing us to use the mountain, Little Chamonix Café for baking so many cakes, and of course our talented team of official event photographers."
