Friday Film: Sand, Sea and Summits on the Isle of Harris

© Roger Kinder

We've just been sent this lovely short film by UKH-er Roger Kinder, who shot it recently on the hills above the famous Luskentyre (Losgaintir) beach on Harris. We think it really captures what makes walking in the Western Isles so special.

'Although we've been up some of the more dramatic British hills this one, although not particularly high, ranks up there with the best of them' says Roger.

'We've been going to Harris and other Outer Hebrides locations for about ten years, but Harris is where our hearts are' says Roger. 'We spent our honeymoon there.'

'We usually go in winter, it really is the only place we've ever been to where you can truly wind down and relax. To steal a quote from a local, Harris and the Outer Hebrides Islands are "the last vestige of civilised society". So how do I rate Harris? as Spinal Tap might say...it goes up to 11!'

'This time we were there for five days, and only had two days rained out [a pretty good ratio in this neck of the woods, Ed]'

The music was written especially for the film by a talented young Kyle of Lochalsh-based musician, Calum Calderwood.
