His time of 6 days and 13 hours (almost exactly) has shaved a considerable slice from Joss Naylor's 7 days 1 hour, a record that had remained unbeaten since 1986. Steve's circuit of all 214 Lake District fells covered 518km and about 36,000m of ascent/descent.

Having started on at 9am on 14 June, he made it back to Keswick at around 10pm last night (Friday 20).

'He runs into Keswick town centre with his posse of about 100 support runners with a jubilant crowd of supporters cheer him on' wrote Shane Ohly on Steve's blog last night.

We interviewed Steve about his preparation for the attempt recently (see here), and once he's had a bit of a rest we'll catch up with him again for more on his epic run.

The whole route and his times are tracked here. For more see Steve's Wainwrights Run 2014 blog
