Crickhowell Walking Fest Expects 1500

The annual Crickhowell Walking Festival takes place 1 - 9 March, with a programme that includes 80 walks and around 20 other events.

'This is our 7th year, and around 1500 people come to all the walks and events' says festival organiser David Thomas.

The programme kicks off on St David's Day, 1st March, when a torchlight walk will light up Table Mountain at dusk. This being St David's Day, there'll then be a community sing-along on the summit.

At the other end of the difficulty spectrum are guided walks encompassing the whole of the Black Mountains, which ought to test the toughest of walkers, according to organisers. Places on these are going fast, apparently.

Non-walking evening offerings include a Dark Sky Reserve - inspired stargazing session, and a talk from the keynote speaker, famous polar person Pen Haddow.

David Thomas said:

'We have tried again to produce an events programme which will appeal to a wide variety of interests and a walks programme which will, at one end of the scale, challenge the fittest and, at the other, introduce people to the joys of walking and the great outdoors. We also welcome back to Festival Twmpath on the last Saturday, where, if your feet are not too tired, you can dance the night away to Welsh Ceilidh band Cat’s Claw.'

Info and booking for all the walks and events are available on the website – www.crickhowellfestival.com or at the Crickhowell Resource and Information Centre (tel 01873 811970). You can also pick up a programme from outlets in the area.
