Got any leaky, battered old boots cluttering up the house? [I sure do - Ed.] Conservation charity the National Trust for Scotland has come up with an unusual use for walking boots that'd otherwise be destined for the bin. It wants to nail them to a billboard to help promote its work caring for Scotland's mountains.

Ninety pairs of boots are needed for the billboard in Edinburgh in June, to feature beside a message encouraging commuters to support the Trust's countryside work.
Part of the One Wee Step campaign which launched in 2012, the advert is the latest to highlight the fact that for hill-goers the Trust is the single most significant landowner in the country. The charity cares for 76,000 ha of some of the wildest and most spectacular countryside in Scotland, including 46 Munros, 424 km of mountain footpaths, seven National Nature Reserves, 45 Sites of Special Scientific Interest, the UK's only natural and cultural World Heritage Site (St Kilda), over 400 islands and islets, Scotland's first voluntary marine reserve and the nest sites of over one million breeding seabirds.
Campaign Manager for the National Trust for Scotland Amy Gunn said:
'We want your old boots to help us spread the message about our mountain and countryside work. Instead of binning your boots, send them to the Trust, freepost and play your part in helping to conserve some of Scotland's most iconic mountain landscapes, including Glen Coe, Torridon and Goatfell.'

Donors will get a special thank you on the One Wee Step website and a credit in a short film that'll be made of the billboard's installation.
