BOARDMAN-TASKER PRIZE FOR MOUNTAIN LITERATURE

The winner of the Boardman-Tasker Prize for Mountain Literature was announced by chief judge, Phil Bartlett on Friday 20th November and was won by Steve House for Beyond The Mountain.

Phil said,

"There is one book in particular here which we all felt as soon as we finished it, we would want to read again. Not because it was hard to read, but because of the depth. It is a book we feel privileged to have read, and proud to have been asked to judge. And those seem to us good reasons to declare it the winner.

We think it is an exceptional book.

Entirely worthy to stand alongside Pete and Joe's.

It is therefore with the greatest of pleasure that I announce that the winner of the Boardman Tasker prize for mountain literature 2009 is Beyond the Mountain by Steve House."

KENDAL MOUNTAIN FESTIVAL FILM AWARDS

This year the judges, Leo Dickinson, Jim Curran, Zoe Hart, and John Innerdale had to watch over 60 films in the four days prior to the Festival.

The GRAND PRIZE presented by Berghaus was won by First Ascent – Alone On The Wall by Peter Mortimer and Nick Rosen. The subject is the phenomenal American climber Alex Honnold soloing Zion's Moonlight Buttress (V 5.12d; 1,200 feet) and Half Dome's Regular Northwest Face in Yosemite. The NW Face is 23 pitches long, and is graded 5.12a (approx E5).

Really pleased that Alone on the wall got some awards, really inspired me but I thought it would be overlooked for The Asgard project which was also very entertaining.
