Winter Approaches - Do You Know Your Snow?

When thinking of avalanches, many British climbers might picture alpine ski resorts, the Canadian Rockies or even further afield, but our little island has more than its fair share of avalanches and unfortunately accidents.

The Mountaineering Council of Scotland (MCofS) have a winter series of events and avalanche awareness courses coming up. The 1 day avalanche courses are priced at only £35 and are not a money spinning scheme, but a valuable and vital programme of education that may help to reduce avalanche accidents in the Scottish hills.

Want to know more about snow safety? Can you make one of these dates:

  • Saturday 9th January 2010 (Cairngorms/Glenmore Lodge)
  • Sunday 10th January 2010 (Cairngorms/Glenmore Lodge)
  • Saturday 30th January 2010 (Aonach Mor/Nevis Range)
  • Sunday 31st January 2010 (Aonach Mor/Nevis Range)
