Excellent weather sparks a whirlwind of British attempts on the Eiger

Amazing weather over the Alps has meant blue skies, low winds and hard freezes. Although some faces are looking very bare, the North Face of the Eiger is reportedly in very good condition. Ueli Steck's amazing record breaking ascent of the classic 1938 route in just 2 hours 47 minutes has shown the way and many British teams are currently either on the face or heading to Grindelwald right now.

Conditions on the North Face of the Grand Jorasses are extremely dry, with routes such as The Shroud being in very poor black-ice condition. The North Face of the Droites is looking slightly better, with teams completing the British route The Colton-Brooks and the classic The Ginat this week. The Swiss Route on the North Face of the Courtes is in excellent condition and has seen several solo ascents in the last week.

With the weather set to hold out for quite a few more days yet this could be an extremely succesful season for winter Alpinists.
