He's Alive....Ueli Steck falls off Annapurna

© Ueli Steck
Ueli Steck's solo attempt to climb a new route on Annapurna's (8091m) south face ended May 28, when he survived a 300-meter fall.

The 30 year old from Switzerland, recently soloed the Eiger Nordwand (3970m) in a record time of 3:54 this February, and is known for his lightweight approach and is a long-time critic of supplemental oxygen.

In 2004 he made the first solo ascent of Cholatse's (6335m) north face (ca. 1500m) and then climbed Taboche's (6501m) east face, back to back.

Not anymore there isn't. We have a new filter just in the RT forums that deletes any variation of "Yeah, but what's he done on grit?" Only kidding.

I'm just gobsmacked when I read about solo attempts like this. The path round the back of Pillar Rock scares me, never mind something like that.
