Italian Couple Summit K2

© Nives Meroi
The Italian husband and wife team of Romano Benet and Nives Meroi summited K2 last week. This is the first time that K2, 8611m, has been summited since 2004. They climbed the Abruzzi Spur without oxygen and climbing without sherpas. Both had attempted K2 previously.

Romano Benet and Nives Meroi are very experienced alpinists. Meroi has climbed eight 8,000m peaks and Benet seven.
