Jim Perrin to auction unique version of his book for Tsunami appeal

© Jim Perrin
On Monday 10th Jim Perrin is doing a book reading of his new book 'The Villain: A Life Of Don Whillans' at the Lescar in Sheffield (7:30pm - see events diary right). Jim has offered to auction his final corrected proof of the book, in its unbound state, with photocopied illustrations (one of which his cat threw up onto!) and also a mystery piece of climbing equipment that belonged to the great man himself. Proceeds will go to the Tsunami appeal.

Thanks to everyone who turned up last night. It was awesome. We raised £625 for the Tsunami appeal via book & calendar sales and the auction. Cheers

Bother, never even knew about it or I'd have gone. I seem to have fallen off your mailing list :-(

You might not have got thru the door - it was jam-packed! I was glad to have got there early enough to have a decent seat. Jim P was on very good form, giving interesting and amusing readings, and an excellent question and answer session. Chris Fitzhugh won the auction for the final ms of The Villain (paying a huge sum of money for it), someone else paid £100 for a minute peg that Whillans had owned ... (well, at least the money went to the tsunami appeal!), and Sam Whittaker showed the superb, heartstopping video of his first ascent of Appointment with Death at Wimberry. Plus there was a Keith Sharples photographic presentation and some excellent short videos from the Kendal Extreme Film school.

If the total raised including the auction was £625 then I think he got a bargain :-)
