During an intense final day, which saw a switch to a racing start, it was all to play for within the women's category, where 1st and 2nd place - Lisa Watson and Sabrina Verjee - were separated by just one minute. In the men's, Galen Reynolds started in a more privilaged position, 44 minutes ahead of Jim Mann, having extended his lead during Day 4. Still, like all races it isn't over until the finishing line...
In the end, after 5 gruelling days, 315 kilometres and 15,500m height gain, Galen Reynolds maintained his lead, finishing in first place with an overall time of 37:38:06. The women's race had a more dramatic ending, as it was clear that the event had taken its toll on Sabrina Verjee, who slowed dramatically, leaving Lisa Watson to come home with a convincing victory, finishing with an overall time of 44:33:23.
A full report will be available tomorrow.
